Kerttu Siplane (b. 1976, Kuressaare) is an Estonian artist and designer based in Tallinn. She holds BA (2004) and MA (2007) degrees in Fashion Design from the Estonian Academy of Arts and is a member of the Estonian Artists’ Association and the Association of Estonian Fashion Designers.
Her practice has expanded from fashion into material- and process-based visual art. Since 2017, natural, found and residual materials have been central to her work. She creates objects, spatial installations and photographs, and makes handmade paper, pigments, bioplastics and composite materials. Her intuitive working process focuses on the origins and transformation of materials, slowing down, observation and manual intervention.
Siplane’s fashion work has often drawn on Estonian folk costume traditions. A bridal dress inspired by Muhu embroidery is held in the collection of the Estonian National Museum. Her works are also held in private collections in Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Scotland, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. Her work has been exhibited in Estonia, Europe, Asia and North America.
Since 2025, she has been developing the exhibition series Beyond the Covers, in which discarded books are transformed into spatial objects. In addition to exhibitions, she leads workshops based on her artistic practice. In 2026, she took part in the Narva Art Residency school residency programme Artists Are Present and the Säde creative practitioner development programme.
