Artist Statement

My work often begins with the material itself — its origin, properties and previous use. I work intuitively through experimentation and observation; the outcome is usually not predetermined but develops through the process. Whenever possible, I use what already exists and avoid taking more from nature than is necessary. I am interested in how changes in a material’s state, form, environment and context can reveal layers of time, memory and value. I create objects, photographs and spatial forms that retain traces of their origins and leave room for the viewer’s observations and associations.
